Program: The Art and Preservations of a Tobacco Dynasty: Doris Duke and Family
On Thursday, October 19, we will travel to Durham and Duke University to learn about Doris Duke and Mary Biddle Duke Trent Semans, two cousins whose tobacco-based fortunes funded fascinating lives including Doris' love of historic preservation, Asian art and fashion. After spending time in the Duke Family vaults of the Rubenstein Library on campus, we will hear a lecture from the Doris Duke Archivist. Next we will enjoy lunch at the Washington Duke Inn, featuring a speaker from the Mary Biddle Duke Foundation.
Our bus will depart from the Carolina Country Club parking lot at 9 am, and return to Raleigh at approximately 4 pm.
